From 4 June 2008, when using your Visa Debit Card or Visa Credit Card in shops there will be two options available to you to conduct a ‘credit’ purchase. You will now be able to enter your PIN or sign as normal for these types of purchases.
No matter whether you use a Pen (signature) or PIN to authorise a payment, ‘credit’ purchases in shops are still Unlimited Free transactions. Pressing ‘credit’ when using your Visa Debit Card will still access your own funds.
Pen or PIN only applies to ‘credit’ purchases in shops. If you wish to get cash out at a shop, you will still need to press ‘savings’ or ‘cheque’. ATM transactions remain the same as they are now - the same fee still applies for withdrawals at non-CBA ATMs.
The option for entering your PIN has been introduced as PIN transactions are considered safer than signing, as only you know the PIN on your card.
If you do not know the PIN on your Visa Debit Card or Visa Credit Card, you can continue to sign for all ‘credit’ purchases. To obtain a new PIN, visit a Member Service Centre at Camberwell or Moonee Ponds.
