Protect what's important
Would you like to protect what’s important to you?
Insurance exists to give you peace of mind, knowing that your assets are safe if something goes wrong, and you are sure to have plenty of precious things you want protected. However not all insurance policies are the same, so you need to make sure that everything that matters most to you is given adequate coverage.
When deciding what you should insure, we suggest you ask yourself the following questions:
What is not covered in my insurance?
There are many comprehensive insurance policies on the market, providing protection for all aspects of your physical and financial wealth. But occasionally things fall through the cracks. Below we explore a few precious items that you might find aren’t covered by your traditional insurance policies:
Does my insurance policy cover my precious jewellery?
- Sometimes our most precious belongings are also the smallest. Special items such as family heirlooms, diamond jewellery and wedding rings do not just hold monetary value; they contain immense emotional significance. So the last thing you want to hear upon misplacing one is that your policy doesn’t cover it.
- Some home and contents insurance providers require you to take out a portable personal valuable option to have your jewellery covered outside of the home. When it comes to repairs, some insurers will insist you use cheaper jewellers in their networks, which may not do justice to custom work. Take an inventory of your valuables, and have them thoroughly evaluated and covered appropriately.
Does my insurance policy cover flood damage?
- Although most insurers cover natural disasters such as lightning and fire, you don’t want to find out that the disaster that befalls you isn’t covered. Flood or sewerage damage is a classic one that isn’t always included in insurance policies. Likewise for earthquake, smoke damage and falling trees. Take the time to think about disasters that are a realistic threat in your area, and try to secure a policy that covers you for them.
Does my insurance policy cover my classic car?
- We understand the passion classic car owners have for their vehicles. However, there are some insurers out there who may not. The maintenance and costs associated with a classic vehicle will usually be different from your everyday car, and won’t be suited to an everyday policy.
How do I find out what is covered by my policy?
You don’t want to go through the stress of losing a beloved possession, only to discover that it’s not covered by your policy. Before taking out any policy, have a thorough discussion with your insurance provider about what your policy includes and excludes. Do your research to understand your policy, carefully, and do not be afraid to ask questions and negotiate on values. If a provider can’t cover something precious to you, it might be worth considering another policy or researching separate, specific insurance for that item.
With our range of versatile insurance policies, we can help you protect what’s important. To learn more about your insurance options and to arrange a quick quote, talk to one of our Insurance Consultants on 1300 654 166.
Types of insurance
Insurance is an invaluable service that can help you get through loss and stressful times in life. But with so many providers and options on the market, it can be difficult to decide which insurance policies to choose.
Depending on the provider and the policy you choose, insurance will allow you to:
Protect your home
Your home might be one of the single biggest assets you will ever own. If your home falls victim to burglary, fire or other disasters, you don’t want to add to the emotional toll with the financial burden of starting again from scratch. Home and contents insurance will help you rest easy, knowing the roof over your head and your belongings are safe. Our range of Building & Contents Insurance protects both your home and the possessions within it.
Cover your vehicle
Could you go long without your car? With car insurance, you won’t have to. Even if you are a very safe driver, anything can happen on the road. You want protection against the costs of accidents and theft and we can help you find the perfect cover for your car.
Safeguard your health
As the saying goes, your health is your most important asset. It can be hard to dwell on the thought of injury or sickness, but insurance will ensure that if either happens you are protected. Working with our trusted partner Australian Unity, we provide health cover designed to safeguard the lifestyle you have worked hard to achieve. And to prepare for the worst, we partner with Zurich to offer comprehensive life insurance policies to look after your family once you’re gone.
Make the most of your travels
Would you like a stress-free trip? The last thing you want to be worrying about on your holiday is unexpected costs. Unfortunately even the most seasoned traveller can hit a bump in the road every now and then. The costs of theft, evacuation, hospitalisation or worse can spiral out of control while traveling – and you’ll be responsible to foot the bill if you are not covered. Whether your trip is at home or abroad, we offer a comprehensive range of Travel Insurance designed to protect yourself and your possessions.
Prepare for anything
- We understand that some things are hard to insure under traditional polices. There are certain assets that fall through the cracks with most major insurance providers. Such specialised insurance includes:
- Professional indemnity.
- Business and commercial insurance
- Prestige, motor, vintage and veteran vehicles insurance.
- Liability insurance.
- Our broker referral service covers business and personal risks to give you adequate protection for items other providers won’t cover.
We offer a range of comprehensive insurance policies to protect your health and wealth. Our Insurance Consultants can walk you through your insurance options and provide a quick quote on 1300 654 166.
How to make a claim
Insurance exists to help you through accidents, loss and damage. If you have to make a claim it’s likely you are already experiencing a lot of stress, so the last thing you want is further complications. The more straightforward the claims process, the quicker you can be compensated for your loss, damage or injury.
When you need to make a claim, try to remember the following:
Make the claim as quickly as possible
A quick response is more likely to result in a quick turnaround, so try to make your claim as soon as it is practical after any incident. Contact your insurer by phone, or by using the forms that many now make available online. At the end of the day, claiming quickly is in your best interest; the sooner you claim, the sooner your insurance company can make an assessment..
Keep all of the documentation and proof
We know paperwork can be a pain, but a paper trail will make it easier for your insurer to process and validate your insurance claim. Keep receipts for major purchases and records of any damages or incidents you are involved in. Take pictures of your damaged property as soon as you see it – a smart phone makes this very easy.
If you are overseas, documentation is a must to claim on travel insurance. If something has been stolen, find the nearest police station to file an immediate report. If you’re injured, have the medical staff looking after you write a certificate.
Be prepared to cover the excess
Even before you need to make a claim, familiarise yourself with your insurer's excess policy. Many providers will have an excess written into contracts, where you agree to pay a small amount of the cost of the damage. For instance, if your car insurance has a $600.00 excess on repairs, you will need to be prepared to provide that so your insurer can cover the rest.
