We are committed to educating our Members about fees and the options available to get the most from low cost banking. Here are some guidelines to help you keep transaction fees low:
Withdrawing Cash
- Try to withdraw enough cash in one transaction through a CBA ATM or EFTPOS to meet your weekly needs. If you do not exceed your quota of Limited Free Transactions each month you will not incur a fee.
- Avoid using non-CBA ATMs where possible. Although the Credit Union does not charge for these transactions, the ATM operator is likely to charge you at the time of the transaction.
- If you exceed your quota of Limited Free Transactions, use EFTPOS to reduce potential fees. EFTPOS allows you to withdraw cash, and attracts a charge of only $0.50 once your six Limited Free EFTPOS transactions have been exceeded for the month.
Paying Bills
- Use Phone or Internet Banking services as often as possible. These are Unlimited Free Transactions and will not incur a fee.
- Instead of drawing cheques, arrange for bills or other payments to be made electronically using Bpay or Direct Debit. These are Unlimited Free Transactions and will not incur a fee.
Shopping
- Withdraw cash when making a purchase using EFTPOS instead of withdrawing later from an ATM. This means you will use only one Limited Free Transaction instead of two.
- If you do not need to withdraw cash, where possible press the ‘credit’ button when making a purchase. This is an Unlimited Free Transaction and will not incur a fee.
Full time Tertiary Students
If you are a full time student enrolled in a University, TAFE, CAE or other registered course, you are exempt from all transaction fees if you provide us with proof of enrolment.
Visa Credit Card
Our Visa Credit Card can be a convenient way to make purchases and manage your finances. It comes with a low interest rate, no annual or monthly fees and up to 55 days interest free.*
- To avoid interest charges you need to be disciplined and ensure where possible, that you pay the full balance by the due date.
- Avoid using your Visa Credit Card for over the counter cash advances and ATM withdrawals.
*Does not apply to cash advances or balance transfers.
Visa Debit Card
Our Visa Debit Card allows access to your funds world wide, 24/7. It is not a credit card, but allows purchases to be directly debited from your transaction account.
- Avoid using your Visa Debit Card for over the counter cash advances.
- Avoid using non-CBA ATMs where possible. Although the Credit Union does not charge for these transactions, the ATM operator is likely to charge you at the time of the transaction.
Different fees apply to Visa Credit and Visa Debit Cards. Further information can be obtained from our Terms and Conditions Part B: Fees and Charges.
