Our Board consists of eight Directors, most of whom have current and extensive experience serving the Education Community.

Jonathan Hutchins - Chair

With over 20 years management experience in the public, private and 'not-for-profit' sectors Jonathan brings vast commercial experience to the Board and a background in corporate governance. In addition to board and management positions in the health and natural resource sectors, he has had experience in Australia and the U.S.A. with Andersen Consulting, management positions with multi-national agribusiness organisations, senior management experience with Coles Myer and now works with several private agribusiness management companies.
A strong affinity with regional Victoria has seen Jonathan involved with many community groups in regional Victoria including the Mansfield District Hospital and National Alpine Museum of Australia.

Greg Angelo

Greg Angelo joined the Board in February 2006. He brings a wealth of experience in financial management and control, risk management, strategic planning and governance issues in several organisations. Greg is CPA qualified with over 25 years of financial management experience at both operational management and board level. He has qualifications in economics (accounting major) plus postgraduate qualifications in business administration, information technology and risk management.

Bernie Lloyd

Bernie’s career in education spans over 35 years with the past 15 being in principal class. Her governance experience includes school councils and executive roles with VASSP (Victorian Association of State Secondary Principals). She led the Victorian chapter of Principals Australia for three years. Bernie was our first Board Intern in 2010 - 2011 and had a year’s exposure to all Board processes to prepare her for election to Director in 2011.

Michael Monester

Michael has a strong 30 year commercial background in property and development underpinned by a legal background. His early career focused primarily on acquisition, development and management of commercial enterprises in Australia, Canada and the US, including international resort consultancy and General Manager – Corporate Strategy positions.
Michael possesses a proven track record in implementing and deploying successful commercial strategies relating to planning, development, risk management and in establishing strong government liaisons and trusting government relationships. He is currently developing large scale affordable housing projects utilising the Federal and State Governments' initiative and contributes to boards in the 'not-for-profit' sector. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

John H Scarlett

After 37 years in education encompassing teaching, consultancy, administration, and an International Teaching Fellowship year in Alaska, John was elected as a Director in 1993. He has had considerable managerial / investment experience in the private sector, enjoys golf, travels and is an avid Essendon supporter.

Wendy Smith

Wendy Smith has had various roles as a Director, Deputy Chairman and Committee Chair with Victoria Teachers Credit Union over the last 25 years. Her roles in education have included teaching, consultancy, administration and Marketing Manager for La Trobe University Mt Buller. Other roles have been in retail and commercial sales management in the private sector.

Prof Karen E. Starr

Karen Starr joined the Board in August 2006. Previously Karen was a Director and Audit Committee member of Satisfac Credit Union in South Australia, and was Telstra Business Women’s Awards National winner for the not-for-profit sector in 2004. Karen is currently Director of the Centre for Educational Leadership and Renewal at Deakin University. She has held three principalships and was Chief Writer of the South Australian Curriculum, Standards and Accountability Framework.

David Temple

David Temple has had a long career in education having been Bursar and Secretary to the School Council at Melbourne Grammar School for over 30 years. He is a member and former Treasurer of the Association of School Business Administrators and has also served on the Industrial Relations Committee of Independent Schools Victoria. David has been involved with the not-for-profit sector as a Director of the Australian National Memorial Theatre and also works on a committee in support of fundraising activities for the National Stroke Foundation.
